Grand Central Hotel
Grand Central Hotel : a bit of history
Forming the front of Glasgow Central Station on Gordon Street, the Grand Central Hotel opened shortly after the station, in 1883. It was designed by architect Robert Rowan Anderson in the 19th century Queen Anne style.
In 1927, the first long-distance television transmission took place between London and the Central Hotel in Glasgow (438 miles). This was achieved by John Logie Baird, himself an alumnus of the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College, which later became the University of Strathclyde.
